When 13-year old Drew Mendelow was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes earlier this year, he found himself overwhelmed by the complexities of managing the disease. "There was a lot of stuff to take in. All these numbers, all this math I had to learn." So, Drew used his knowledge of computer programming to develop a phone app that can help him, and other patients across the world, track and manage their Type 1 diabetes. Taking insulin, monitoring blood sugar levels, tracking carbohydrate intake are all critical steps in managing and surviving the disease, and Drew's app, "T1D1" (Type 1 diabetes from day 1) is designed to make these processes easier.

The app is free to download and includes no advertisements "I'm really trying to make this app available to anyone who can't afford any of their medical supplies," Mendelow says. "I want to make sure everyone can really use it."
